Kitten Litter training is one of the hardest things for any kitten to learn. Before you can even think about making a litter box for your kitten, you have to train them first.
They just love to climb on things and scratch at anything they see to get into the litter box. There is no denying that these cats are climbers. If you aren’t careful they can end up in a lot of trouble. Here are some tips for training your kitten to use the litter box.
Kitten Litter Traning
First of all, when you get your kitten home, make sure that you pick up a cat litter box from the pet store. Many times the litter box can hide under the litter box mat and Kitten does not see this. You should take a few minutes to get them used to the feeling of being in the litter box. You can move onto teaching them how to use the litter box.
The first thing you want to do is to set up a litter box where the cat will be located most of the time. If the cat’s litter box is in its cage or a part of the house, you will want to get them comfortable in it before you move them to the litter box.
It is important to know the likes and dislikes of your cat. It can help if you turn on a light. You can see the activity of the cat as it goes around the house. However, it is important to keep an eye on your cat if you do not want to be the victim of a surprise fight.
When you get your cat’s kitten litter box, put it on the floor of the room where the cat will be located most of the time. In time the cat will get used to the floor and start to come there every time you decide to clean their litter box. You will also want to keep a moving part of the litter box near the cat litter box to encourage them to use it.
After they start using the litter box you can move the litter box to another area of the house. It is important to make sure the cat knows where they will be placing their litter box at all times. You will find that this can be a big help.
Make sure that you place the kitty litter box in a location where it is easily visible to the cat. You may want to use a bed for your cat to sleep on. This will allow them to access it easily and keep them from scratching other areas of the house.
Once the cat has learned to use the kitty litter box, you can start working on trying to teach them to use their litter box every time. This will help prevent accidents that could harm them. The older cat will probably want to get into the kitty litter box more than the young kitten.
It is important to keep this in mind when doing kitten training. It is possible to get frustrated when this happens and try to physically remove the cat from the box. This may cause them to get even more aggressive if they don’t understand what is happening.
It is easy to get discouraged and never try to remove them from the litter box. Just remain patient and do not punish them by removing them. Once they understand the difference in being trained and letting them know it is OK to stay inside the litter box, you will be able to train them to use the litter box every time.
When they are finally older and no longer climbing, you may want to place some of the litter in a bowl that will be placed on top of their litter box. This way they will know when they have to use the litter box. You will soon find that you can have kitty litter training down in a very short period of time and will be able to keep your kitty litter box clean without your having to clean up after them.
