Cats have an unfair reputation for being aloof and unpleasant, but cat owners are well aware of the benefits of having fluffy, loving critters around. The Cat Fanciers’ Association published a list of the most famous cat varieties for 2016 and here are the names of the most common cat breeds-

Devon Rex Cats

The Devon Rex is a comparatively recent species of most common cat breeds that were found by chance in the Devonshire region of England in 1960. It has been dubbed a pixie cat, an extraterrestrial cat, a cat that appears like an elf — or a bat. It has also been seen to act more like a pup than a cat. The breed has caught the attention of cat enthusiasts all around the world, as well as the hearts of its owners, with its loving, quirky, and impish attitude.

Abyssinian Cats

Abys, as they are affectionately known, are graceful and regal-looking cats that are low maintenance and make excellent companions for cat enthusiasts. Abyssinians are an energetic and expressive kind of all the most common cat breeds with somewhat wedge-shaped heads, partially ears, medium-length bodies, and very well musculature. They have long, thin legs and short, close-lying coats. Their general look is similar to that of ancient Egyptian breeds.

Sphynx Cats

One of the newest and most common cat breeds is the Sphynx, a hairless, wrinkled marvel with large ears and eyes and prominent cheekbones. According to the CFA, the first Sphynx was born in Canada in 1966. The absence of hair, which is a hereditary abnormality, is caused by Mother Nature and happens once every 15 years. The Sphynx has been crossed with regular shorthair cats and then returned to hairless to generate a genetically sound, robust breed. Many cat enthusiasts have noticed the breed’s distinct appearance.

Scottish Fold Cats

Many Scottish fold cats are adorable and modest, with a characteristic that distinguishes them from other cats: curled ears that offer the breed an owl-like look. Scottish fold cats are noted for their laid-back personalities and for being extremely affectionate and sociable with people and other domestic pets. Friendly and lively, this breed develops a strong attachment to one family member. The gentle voice of the Scottish fold cat is also well-known, as is its capacity to “speak” in a range of purrs and meows not audible in many other cat breeds.

Maine Coon Cats

Maine Coon cats are one of North America’s most common cat breeds, and they’re recognised for their brilliance, liveliness, and stature. They are affectionately referred to as “gentle giants,” one of the biggest domestic cat breeds. Maine Coons have shaggy coats and a rough look. Maine Coons can reach up to 30 pounds when fully mature, with females weighing somewhat less. By the age of three to five, these gentle giants have grown to their maximum size.
