Balinese Cat: Breed History

The Balinese was first imported from the US and the UK from the beautiful land of smiles – Thailand. They were explicitly introduced in the 1800s, and as we mentioned, they were among the first ancestors of the Siamese.

Although they were imported from Thailand with the Siamese, they were named after the island of Bali, as a reference for the Dancers.  This breed was not developed until the 1950s and 1940s.  In 1961, The Cat Fanciers Federation recognized the breed. Shortly after, the Cat Fanciers association followed in 1970.
