Hairless Cats: The Donskoy

The Donskoy is probably considered the playboy of the hairless cat clan. Elena Kovaleva at Russia discovered the first Donskoy in 1987. She rescued a kitten from a group of boys who were playing a bunch of mean pranks on her. After taking in the kitten, Elena noticed that her hair started to lose her hair. The kitten’s name was Varvara.

When she gave birth to her litter of kittens, she noticed that her kitten had also lost her hair, as they grew older. At first, Elena thought it was a sickness of sorts or a disease, but a professional breeder explained that it’s the birth of a new breed called the Donskoy.

This handsome cat breed is known for its loyalty. They are also not that affectionate and do not require too much attention and interaction, but you will be surprised to know that he demands it at times. The Donskoy is also brilliant, friendly, can get along with just about anyone, and playful.

They are also very easy to train, and can easily adapt. Although they are hairless, you will be surprised to know that they grow a winter coat, which grows only on their chest and tail.

Hairless Cats: Peterbald

We mentioned the Donskoy, but the Peterbald is a direct relative. The Peterbald is a cross between the Donskoy and the oriental shorthair.  This gives the breed the appearance of sophistication, which is quite similar to the Siamese – only hairless.

This awesome hairless cat is among the most affectionate of all hairless cat breeds. He will curl up with you in the bed, or sit by your side during dinner time. Peterbalds are also very vocal cats, so if they want some attention from you, they will tell you about it.

Here’s a quick fun fact for you, the Peterbald has a high metabolism. Like most other cat breeds with full fur coats, they get hungry very easily and need a lot of food to stay healthy. The fast metabolism makes wounds and scratches on their skin heal faster as compared to other hairless cat breeds.

So, if you are looking for a cat that is hairless, affectionate, sweet, loyal, and easy to maintain, then this guy should be first on your list.
